What Exactly Is EDTA Chelation?

Chelation is derived from the Greek word "claw," meaning "to grab." EDTA is very 'attracted' to toxic metals like lead, mercury and aluminum. It has a propensity to grab onto heavy metals and carry them safely out of the body.

The presence of toxic elements in our bodies have been proven to be a major factor in most degenerative diseases including heart disease, cancer, Lou Gehrig's disease, MS, arthritis and Alzheimer's.

When a molecule of EDTA (ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid) traveling through the bloodstream gets near a toxic metal, it binds tightly with it, and escorts the poisonous substance out of the body through natural elimination (urine and solid wastes).

This compound is a harmless artificial amino acid. The body regards it as a foreign substance, and eliminates the entire heavy metal particle that is now coated with EDTA.

Initially, EDTA chelation was used to help remove lead from people suffering from lead poisoning. Early in its history, in the 1940's and 50's, it was found to be an effective treatment for lead toxicity and was approved by the FDA as a safe drug for that purpose.
